K.A.M. (Adrienn Mária Kiss) – Beautiful Noise (3.10.2021)
performance
As a closing event of my three month residency in A4 Bratislava, I have performed a live act in the main theater hall that has been accompanied by a video-sound projection on the large screen. The live act and the projection were both divided in two parts following one another alternately in time. The environment on stage I have also designed and produced myself. It is meant to be an artwork of its own, an installation of five pieces of painted canvases stretched between the stands of four speakers in the corners, a microphone set and a holder of a music sheet. During the performance I stood in the middle producing sound with the electric guitar, distortion pedals, an amplifier, and at times with my voice. For the paintings I used standard and reflective acrylic color, by that I have achieved the possibility to play with different combinations that changed with the light settings of the hall. Additionally three UV lights placed on the floor supported the visibility of the phosphorescent images. The recurring motif, both in the paintings and in the animation I have projected is the sound-wave, the conventional mark for making sound visual. Using this element in different colors, forms and sizes I have built new abstract compositions.
Noise and melody, rhythm, repetition, monotony and surprise were depicted here in a visual and also on a sonic level.
My aim was to work with all possible methods within my reach, to produce analog (painting), digital(projection) and electric (guitar) signals at the same time to fulfill the search for new meanings.
The performance is an outcome of the artist’s residency in A4 within the Visegrad Artist Residency Programme supported by the International Visegrad Fund. Supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council and Foundation of Bratislava City.
